Heel Spurs

Symptoms of Heel Spurs

Pain associated with heel spurs is often an intense pain at the front of the heel after activity or upon rest at the end of the day.

You may feel as though you are walking on a stone. The pain may begin in the heel but then spread into the arch of the foot.

Heel spurs are often confused with plantar fasciitis.

Causes of Heel Spurs

Heel spurs are deposits of calcium that can occur when the Achilles tendon or the plantar fascia is repeatedly overused and inflamed.

The new calcium deposits are the body’s way of trying to heal the damage where the tendon joins the bone. Over time, these bone growths may become large enough to cause considerable pain.

Over-pronation, abnormally high foot arching and shoes that place strain on the feet increase the repeated stretching of the plantar fascia and contribute to the development of heel spurs.
