Over-pronation & Flat Feet

Over-pronation & Flat Feet

Over pronation involves excessive inward rolling of the feet. This can lead to soft tissue  injury and pain.

People frequently blame over-pronation for various pains in their feet.

To dispel the myths, we need to understand that a normal degree of pronation is essential to the healthy function of the foot.

The foot naturally rolls in to transfer weight from the heel to the ball of the foot as you walk or run.

However, for some people, this normal roll becomes excessive and causes pain throughout the foot.

Causes of Over-pronation or Flat Feet

Excessive pronation may be the result of differing leg lengths or foot shapes.

If left unaddressed these problems may cause a chain of related issues in the ankles, knees, hips, lower back and even migraine.

Treatment of Over-pronation or Flat Feet

Erica Dash Podiatry will perform a Biomechanical Assessment to identify precisely any abnormalities in your walking or running style.

Effective treatment may include one of a combination of the following:

  • Same day customised orthotics
  • Foot mobilisation technique
  • exercises to stretch and strengthen the muscles and tendons in the feet and legs.
